Revenge of the Nerds Plot
This 80's cult classic follows lovable nerds Gilbert and Lewis as they embark on their freshman year at Adams College, little do they realize the perils that await them. They're beset with taunting by the jocks of Alpha Beta fraternity, which only worsens when the jocks accidentally burn down their house and are forced toss the freshmen out of the freshmen dorm. To make matters more problematic, Lewis develops a crush on pretty Betty Childs, popular sorority sister and quarterback's girlfriend. Joined by the aptly named Booger and the violin-playing Pointdexter, the nerds soon realize they must form their own fraternity in self-defense. Soon the tables are turned as the nerds employ high-tech warfare against the jocks.... but can they really win and make a difference?
Lewis: Do any of you have dates, besides Gilbert?
Lamar> Latrell: I do!
Booger: Yeah, but that's with a guy.
Lewis: Well, what about you, Booger?
Booger: I've been combing the High Schools all day!!
Betty Childs: Nerds saw me naked!
Booger: We've got bush!
Lesser-Known Revenge of the Nerds Facts:
- To test the effectiveness of their "nerd" makeup and wardrobes, Robert Carradine and Anthony Edwards attended a college rush-week, when real fraternities were reviewing prospective pledges (wanna-be members). The fraternity leader of the first house took one look at them both and said, "No way!"
- During the Alpha Beta/Pi performance at the skit competition, the backdrop lists "scores" for Alpha Betas and for Nerds. The Alpha Beta score is 69. The Nerd score is 0.
- When Jeff Kanew was interviewed by the producers, they asked what kind of movie he thought he could make given the material. He responded, "One I would be embarrassed to have my name on." They hired him immediately.
- According to an interview with Curtis Armstrong (Booger) on the Special Edition DVD, the sound that comes out of his mouth to win the belching contest is actually the sound of two camels mating.
- The main characters' names are a play on a the name of the famous American physical chemist, Lewis N. Gilbert, who studied acids, bases and photo-phosphorescence. He is credited with coining the term "photon" and was the first to produce pure deuterium oxide, otherwise known as "heavy water".
